Breanna is a You-tuber, from New York City with a bustling fan base. Her videos are primarily about her hair and recently, she covered her summer trip to Ghana!
Breanna and I attend the same university and I met her a few years back and she's one of the sweetest people I've dealt with at the university. New York City can be rife with people with fame, that become extremely pretentious because of it and she's never been like that and that's why I really wanted to work with her on this collaboration.
For this collaboration, I styled her for an upcoming Lookbook Video for her YouTube channel. My goal as her stylist, was to get her into looks that she wouldn't generally wear and to expand the scope of her personal style. Many of the looks I put together were looks that she wouldn't normally put together and that's where I come in. My main focus is to show a client the full power and variety of her wardrobe. Therefore being able to surprise her was wonderful and quite complimentary to me.
Look One: Knit Top/ Topshop. Jeans/ Topshop. Coat/ Vintage. Shoes/ Jeffrey Campbell.
For this look, I wanted to stay true to her original style, but also add a little bit of funk in there. It's a rather casual look that can be worn for everyday life things, but there's a hint of individuality and personal expression that really makes this look special. I fell in love with the shaggy coat once I saw it and I had to style her in it. It is gorgeous.
Look 2: Turtleneck/ F21. Midi Skirt/ Topshop. Mohair Coat/ Topshop.
This look got a bit dressier. I paired the turtleneck and skirt in order to have a nice fitted monochrome look. Pairing this look with the lavender coat is really wonderful because with such a harmonious pairing, no one item overshadows the other. The brightness of the coat draws the eyes to it and the contrast also draws attention to the outfit underneath.
Look Three: Knit Turtleneck/ F21. Reversible Faux Fur Vest. Knit Dress/ Topshop.
For this look, I re-purposed the knit turtleneck, mainly to show the duality of certain pieces. There are some pieces that are essential to any wardrobe because they can be worn in so many ways. A basic and fitted turtleneck is one of those pieces and I really wanted to showcase the importance of such a key piece and how it can be put together.
Look Four
To top off this styling session, I ended with a more formal look. She wanted to figure out how to style the bangle and ring she is wearing and those accessories matched up perfectly with this simple shift dress.
All in all, this was such a fun session! It was also a great way for me to kick-start my styling career. It really gave me tons of confidence in myself because I was able to literally walk into someone's closet and put them in different outfits that they look amazing and loved.
All is well that ends well.
There will more Stylist Diaries in the upcoming weeks. I can't wait to see what the future holds and to share it with y'all.
Love & Light,
Rachel.
You did a wonderful job! I love each of these looks.
