Since graduating university, my crafty hands are back out. I'm back to being a fabric store junkie and a refashionista.
What I love most about sewing is just the act of creating and really making something from theoretically, nothing. It's a wonderful art. It's alchemy at its simplest form.
I haven't really had the chance to sew in the past months because I was completing my final semester of university and sewing was just something I couldn't give time to.
Now, I'm back and I'm hoping to be better than ever and in order to do that, I want to get my readers involved in the process. I'm doing this mainly because it holds me to some accountability and it makes me work harder and better because I will be sharing all of my creations with you guys.
Thank you all for always motivating me and making me better.
My latest trip to the fabric store was quite fruitful, because I found some interesting prints for a steal. I will be showcasing all of them in due time, but lets start with this one. I found this lovely tafetta for $2 a yard and I decided to make a little shift dress with it.
Shift dresses are an absolute staple in my wardrobe because you literally slip it on and go. They're loose, breathable, can be easily dressed up or down, and are casual enough for a day at the park and dressy enough to even wear to work. I decided to try my hand at making them because having a collection of these dresses will make getting dressed on a lazy day 1189399x easier for me.
This is the result:
For a first try, I'll give myself some props and say it isn't bad, it could be better and it will be with time but for my first time at it, I did a decent job. Originally, I wanted it to have sleeves but with this fabric, huge bell sleeves just came off as awfully tacky and I ripped them off with a quickness.
All in all, I'm very exciting to begin this journey into creating fashion and I'm so excited to be sharing it all with you guys!
To all my readers in the U.S.A, Happy Memorial Day! Take advantage of that beautiful weather and get out their with your loved ones.
Love & Light,
Rachel.
